Ok WARNING so these little balls of yumminess taste like peanut butter cups…for real though. The trick is in the sea salt. They’re made with completely raw ingredients, zero refined sugar, and are about as healthy as a dessert can get. I started getting the idea to make them after buying these GF balls at the grocery store last week. They were PB & J flavour, and while they touted all sorts of things about how healthy they were, when I checked the ingredient list they were FULL OF CHEMICALS, artificial flavour, and more. The real ingredients that stood out for me, I made note of, did some googling when I got home and decided that while I didn’t invent the energy ball, I could play with ingredients and come up with something delicious and tasty.
So here we are. These little raw energy bites are kind of perfect for an after dinner treat, or a post workout treat, or a treat of any kind. And, AND! you can make them just as easily with Wow Butter or any other nut free butter so that they’re school safe too.
Ingredients:
1 cup of pitted dates
1/3 cup dark chocolate chips or chunks of a chocolate bar
1 cup natural peanut butter
1 tsp sea salt
2 tbsp chia seeds
2 tbsp hemp seeds
1/3 cup of whole oatmeal flakes
1 tbsp water
Blend everything in a food processor, I don’t have one of those so I used my vitamin and it worked just fine. Blend until well mixed, you might have to use a wooden spatula to mix it a bit and then blend again. Dump out the mix into a bowl, mix a bit more with your hands. Then roll into balls. You can roll them through cacao too if you want, they will taste even more delicious, but beware they get a little sticky and goey. Store in an air tight container in the fridge!
