On Saturday we had Johannes’ birthday party at my mom and dad’s house. Unlike last year’s event, we decided to keep it small and light this year. I baked a cake, we ordered pizza and kept the birthday guests down to just family members. It was small but fun and Johannes had a blast. He loves pizza. He loves cake. He loves dogs and he loves cars…all of which made the day that much more special.
I’m not entirely convinced that Johannes really understood one hundred percent of what was going on. But he definitely knew that it was something special and I think he knew that it was for him. And the magical expression on his face when he woke up from his nap to see the ride-on Mini Cooper! It was priceless.
As for next year {and yes I am THAT mom who plans birthdays a year in advance}, we will probably have a bigger party for him for his 3rd birthday when he’s old enough to understand what’s happening and old enough to have friends.
**If you’re curious about the Nutella Doughnut Birthday Caek {with whipped vanilla bean frosting} I will be posting the details in the days to come}.**

Isn’t it amazing to realize our boys are TWO! Crazy!
I love the low key, family, quiet celebration.
It really reminds us of what the day is truly about…. the boy!
