You guys know how much I love Vichy, their creams and serums are amazing, and I use a combination of their products religiously several times a day. But over the past two years, as life moved along into my mid thirties (eek I am in my MID thirties!) I started noticing a few things, like a fine line straight across my forehead, a laugh line starting to form on my right cheek and bigger and bigger noticeable pores on my face. Two of my larger pores even began to grow externally and I had to have them removed.
So when Vichy launched the Idealia line, specifically formulated to fight those first signs of aging, like the ones I have above, I couldn’t wait to try them. The formula is super gentle and made with the iconic Vichy Mineralizing Thermal Water. Its full of blueberry and black tea extracts which protect the skin from free radicals and makes the skin more radiant. And all the products smell amazing!
I had the opportunity to also ask noted Dermatologist Dr Sonya Abdulla, MSc MD FRCPC, from Dermatology on Bloor, Toronto, a few questions about my skin, and I want to share them on here in case they may be helpful to you as well.
ME: I always make sure to wear sunscreen on my face, but now that I’m 35 what should I be on the look out for?
DR ABDULLA: The biological aging process tends to accelerate in our twenties and becomes more visible as we enter our 30s. The appearance of fine lines across the forehead and around the eyes are more obvious, we have a tendency towards sun damage or hyperpigmentation. Additionally pore size tends to increase and skin tends to appear more dull.
ME: What would you recommend as my skin care routine moving forward?
DR ABDULLA: Sun protection is key – introduce a broad-band sunscreen with minimum SPF 30 on a daily basis as a first step. Antioxidants such as blueberry extract and vitamin C are helpful to neutralize free radical damage from environmental exposures and prevent further oxidative stress and skin aging. Lastly, ingredients such as glycolic acid, LHA and retinol are helpful to reverse the first signs of aging, improving skin luminosity, skin texture and hyperpigmentation.
ME: How important is water moving into my mid to late 30s for skin care?
DR ABDULLA: Hydration is vital to our body and comes from various sources as it relates to the skin. Repeated water exposure to the skin is actually quite irritating – over washing is too be avoided. However, when formulations rich in mineral water are applied to the skin these may have added benefit including antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anti-microbial properties.
On first impressions the Idealia Line has all the things you love and expect from Vichy, smooth finish, skin brightening and that intoxicatingly awesome smell. I love putting on the Idealia night cream just before I go to bed. But my absolute two favourite products from the line are the Idealia Peel, which I put on just before I put the cream on and it helps exfoliate my skin while I sleep, so I wake up with brighter skin. And the BB cream which comes with built in SPF and a tint!! It makes my skin glow even though I don’t have anything else on except moisturizers and serum!
And you guys!!! I’m doing a GIVEAWAY over on my Instagram right now with this wonderful new line, so you can win a complete range of the Vichy Idealia Products. Go fast! Happy International Women’s Day!
