Henrik absolutely loves food, but this particular mix in particular is his absolute favourite. I make it at least once or twice a week and he eats it in seconds.
The recipe came about sort of by accident the first time. I had some butternut squash left over and a few bruised apples the boys didn’t want to eat…why don’t kids eat bruised apples?! they taste the same as far as I’m concerned. But I digress… So I peeled them all, steamed and blended them together. I did a quick taste test myself and decided that the mix was delicious but it needed a little something extra.
As I rifled through my pantry I realized the baby food was missing a key ingredient to take it to the next level… CINNAMON! I sprinkled a bit inside, blended again and presto…baby food that tasted like pie filling. Ahhh so good! Johannes loves it too so I consider it a winner.
You don’t need a fancy baby cook for it either. You can steam the squash and apples in any steamer you have at home, save some of the water for blending. And at the very end mix in a little cinnamon.
Here is how I make it:
1/3 butternut squash, cubed and peeled 2 apples peeled and cubed 2 tsp cinnamon a little steamer water to blend
Steam the squash and apples together. Once they’re done, blend with the water and cinnamon until smooth. Cool and serve a little bit warm.
You can watch my video below to see Henrik and I in action. One of my goals this year is to do more video and to really focus on my YouTube channel. It would be a great add on to my blog and Instagram I think and after talking with my new friend Joanna, from a Nesting Story, I think this is the right way to go.
