Boy do I ever have a sweet tooth. When I was pregnant with all the boys all I craved was chocolate, chocolate and more chocolate. I loved it so much I would keep chocolate in the console of my car for a quick mid drive snack. Michael was not very impressed with me.
But all kidding aside taking time for ME has been a bit of my motto the past few months. I realized around my 35th birthday that I needed to make time for me. Whether working out, running, etc. I needed some time for me to decompress, to think, to plan and just relax some days. So as a compliment to my workouts I added a couple of special “mom’s time out” strategies to make me a little more whole.
(1) Thursday Night Date Night…with myself. Michael sometimes has to go out for work on Thursdays or he will come home and head straight for the gym. So Thursday Night I give myself an hour to watch my favourite show and have a healthy snack full of amazing nuts, fruits and my favourite Green & Black’s Organic Chocolate. This recipe and more farther down in this post.
(2) 20 minute facial…at home. Every three days I give my skin a little boost of hydration. I spend 20 minutes exfoliating, putting on a mask and really massaging the creams and oils into my face.
(3) And lastly, aroma therapy before bed. A little bit of lavender essential oil on my pillow, gives me instant relaxation and helps me sleep better.
Ok now for this yummy recipe our whole family is obsessed with now?
Going back to my sweet tooth, I get cravings for chocolate all the time but I wanted something that was quick and easy but also good for me. So I decided to make a healthy trail mix with Green & Black’s Organic Dark Chocolate, healthy nuts, fruits etc, so whenever I got a craving I could quickly quench it with something delicious. Here’s how you can make it too:
1 cup raw walnuts (whole)
100g Green & Black’s Organic Dark Chocolate (coarsely chopped)
1/2 cup dried blueberries
1/2 cup dried cherries
1 cup roasted pistachios
1/2 cup chunks of coconut
1 tbsp cinnamon
Mix all the ingredients in a bowl and store in an air tight container.
Its the easiest thing to make but so good!
