I have a pretty serious doughnut addition so when I decided to throw a post nap doughnut picnic, no one was shocked. I picked up several fresh fluffy doughnuts in various flavours and sizes, from a local shop and served them with milk once Johannes woke up from his afternoon nap. It was delightful and fun, primarily in its randomness.
The May long weekend is a big planting weekend for all those yummy fruits, veggies and pretty flowers. We feel so fortunate to have a little back yard in the heart of the city and we wanted to make sure we made the most of it. Michael built 3 garden beds, ordered organic soil, bought organic seeds and some seedlings and we got to work.
We soon realized that Johannes wanted to participate too. So we thought we should give him his own little garden to plant his all time favorite…cherry tomatoes. We bought a cedar planter from Home Depot, asked Johannes to fill it with soil and then helped him plant his little cherry tomatoes. The filling part proved more entertaining than the actual planting part. J didn’t quite understand the concept of putting the plants in the pot then leaving them alone. But alas we were successful. We will have Johannes water his garden and then pick the tomatoes when they’re ready to much on. I think it will be pretty fun for him.

What an incredibly amazing long weekend we had! Full of sunshine, gardening, BBQs and parties. We had way more fun than is probably normal for essentially spending the weekend in our own neighbourhood {but more on that later}.
We dressed up, sort of…. Jeans and T-s are dressy if you pair them with cute flats right? There’s something about sunshine that inspires me to wear bright fun colours, and apparently this has rubbed off on Johannes too because he picked out his outfit all by himself. For me, my outfit was a no brainer, I’m a self-proclaimed skinny jean snob. I like jeans that are fitted, dark, mid to high waisted and super comfy. Since having Johannes I just can’t rock the low-rise pants any more, but I also don’t want to compromise style, so the Mavi Alexa mid rise skinny are my favourite go-to jeans these days {and did I mention super affordable?!}. I quickly paired them with a dressy flat, soft tank, cardi and a bright bag for a fun look that took me all the way through my Sunday social activities and subsequent farmers market date. I loved this outfit so much, that I might have to re-use this look again for the office on casual Friday. Honestly mamas, you N E E D these skinny jeans.

Have you seen this inspiring post by photographer mom, Jamie Moore, with her 5 year old daughter? Jamie’s desire to introduce her soon to be 5 year old daughter to strong interesting women of the past, turned into a beautiful tribute to women everywhere. I am not only inspired by Jamie’s post, but also humbled to be reminded that as parents we have an inherent responsibility to teach and guide our children.
To see all the photos and read Jamie’s beautiful post go here. What are your thoughts on Jamie’s shoot? Would you do this with your own kids?
I spent my whole weekend in running gear, hardly worth writing about and hardly inspiring for any fashion lover. Johannes on the other hand rocked his new North Standard Trading Post sweatshirt and shorts {he’s also slightly obsessed with his North Standard camping cup}. This cute little store opened just around the corner from our house, they’re as new to the neighbourhood as we are, and feature some great Canadiana gear. Seriously, are you not in love with that bear logo?! I’m obsessed. Oh and if you’re wondering about J’s shorts…they’re from the girl’s section naturally! He’s too skinny to wear boy jeans.
