As the old saying goes “An apple a day, keeps the doctor away”, there are many health benefits associated with apple consumption. Apples are high in antioxidant compounds and fiber, perfect if your child is suffering any type of constipation. The fiber in the apples is also reduces re-absorption of other fats in the body, thus reducing cholesterol. Research also suggests apples to be associated with reduced rates of colon, prostate and lung cancer.
Its not always easy coming up with new and inventive ways to get our little ones to eat fruits and veggies, but one thing is for sure, they sure love desserts! If you’d like a quick snack recipe here is one of my mom’s favorites: Grated Apple with Crushed Arrowroot Biscuits. The recipe is as easy as it sounds:
(1) Peel and grate and apple
(2) Crush a couple of arrowroot cookies with a rolling pin, until the cookie is in powder form without any big crumbs
(3) Mix the cookie powder with the grated apple and VOILA! An instant delicious and nutritious snack.
