Johannes has an ear infection, and croup cough on top of it. The antibiotics the doctor prescribed cause diarrhea which everyone knows is super dangerous for babies and toddlers. Normally when Johannes has a runny stool I just give him bananas or home made rice pudding {made with almond milk not dairy} but because of the croup he is absolutely refusing all food. So after 2 days of serious battling with my little guy to eat one banana, and multiple un-fullfilled threats of time out, I found the magic trick…a diarrhea fighting smoothie!!!
Not only did Johannes devour the smoothie, but he even asked for more! And after two glasses of this stuff, his poops went from water to hard-normal. Its magic.
So here’s what went into it:
1 banana
1/2 cup frozen raspberries
1 cup of cooked white rice – cooked in coconut almond milk
2 tbsp hemp seeds
1 cup of coconut almond milk
blend well and server with a straw if your toddler loves straws, or a spoon for the little itty bitty babies that might not be able to use a straw just yet.
Seriously this stuff was magic. If you have a little who struggles with diarrhea try this, its the best way to get all those binding agents into one yummy snack. Personally I split the amount into two and give them to J at 2 a two hour interval.

Didn’t the raspberries a negative effect. I am about to make some smoothies for my 20-month old who hasn’t thrown up since 645 this morning, but has horrifyingly bad diarreah. I have breastmilk, coconut water and bananas… I think I am going to toss in some rice for good measure because of this blog. (Yes, I found you by googling “diarreah smoothie toddler”

nope there were no negative effects, blueberries cause diarrhea but not raspberries. Hope you find it as useful as i did!
I have been in pure devestation with my 1.5 old boy… Everything he drinks comes out. I have gone threw one too many diapers.. i sure hope this smoothie works!
