Hi, I’m Ana. Thanks for checking out our little space of the universe.
I started this blog after the birth of Johannes. I wasn’t quite sure what I would post about or how this whole blogging thing would go, but now my blog is my story and my journal. Almost 6 years later, two boys, one more on the way, a dog, two cats, two fish and a new house, Michael and I can call this our own personal family zoo. Over the years this blog has grown, picked up a few readers other than our parents along the way, and has taken on somewhat of a life of its own. Its not perfect, but its just how I like it. So if you’d like to follow along we would be glad to have you. There’s a little bit of everything, frustrated rants, baking successes, a little fashion and sharing of things I love.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is your background?
I am Romanian/Canadian. I was born in Romania and my parents immigrated to Canada when I was 8 years old. I’m fluent in both languages and most definitely identify with both cultures. Michael is 100% Canadian, which around here means he’s a mix of all different European backgrounds. Johannes and his brothers were born here in Toronto, and I hope to be able to teach him a little bit about my Romanian roots as well.
Where do you live?
Currently we live in Toronto. Michael and I used to live in Vancouver but 9 years ago we moved closer to my parents. We recently bought a house in a neighborhood of Toronto and we couldn’t be happier.
How did you and Michael meet?
Well that’s a long story! The abridged version – we met at a bar, one week later Michael told me he loved me and the rest is history. That was 12 years ago.
Why do you blog?
Well that’s a bit of a loaded question. I actually bought this domain and thought about starting a blog long before Michael and I were married, the plan was for this space to be my online wedding planning guide. But then life got in the way and I found myself with a brand new blog, a brand new baby and a new motherhood role that I knew nothing about. So with some encouragement from Michael, I started blogging about my life as it was then. That was in 2011 and I can’t believe that this spring I will celebrate 6 years of blogging life. The blog has changed in many ways, and on the flip side my life has changed in many ways because of this blog. Blogging is not always rosy especially when you put yourself out there on a personal level, there are some pretty hateful people out there too. I’ve thought about quitting many times and moving on to something else. But I believe the positive outweighs the negative, and if I can relate to just one other woman out there on some level, then its worth it.
Don’t you also work full time?
I do. I graduated from University back in 2006 and have worked my way through the maze to land on IT Security Project Management consulting as my career love. I love what I do and my work fits well with my personality. Its a role I take very seriously and work hard at, and one I’m not quite ready to let go of even though I’ve now added “mom” and “blogger” to my list of jobs. I am self employed and contract out my services which allows me not only the flexibility to participate in those other roles in my life, but also to take on various clients and grow my resume. Its a win win.
Do you make money off your blog?
Yes. The blog has become a source of income for me as well. I only work with brands that I already use in my daily life, or that I truly believe in and the thoughts and opinions I express on here and my Instagram profile are completely my own. Monetizing my blog allows me to spend more time with my boys, and at the end of the day allows me to continue to blog as well. Sponsored blog posts are clearly identified by accompanying tags on both the blog and Instagram, so you can easily spot them. I would never work with a brand that I felt was compromising my voice, my true self or my beliefs, and I am proud of the amazing companies I have had the privilege of working with.
Who takes your pictures?
99% of the photos on this blog are taken by either myself of Michael though Johannes has started asking to take some of my photos too, and he is pretty darned good I tell ya!
What camera do you use?
I use a Canon 5D MarkII with either a 24-70mm f2.8 lens or my trusty 50mm and I edit all my photos in Lightroom and Photoshop. On Instagram I mainly use my iPhone 6s Plus
Where do you find the energy to do it all?
Ummm I don’t. Read this.
