Teething Woes

Its pretty tough being a little guy, and teething does not make life easy these days.

Johannes`s teeth took a while to start coming in, he didn`t cut his first tooth until 8months.  But it seems like his teeth have decided its time to play catch up and have a teething-party in my little guy`s mouth.  J cut his 7th tooth on Wednesday, we`d had a pretty rough couple of days with him up until that point so I figured we were in for a break now that it was officially out.   But the fussyness, whininess, clingyness continued, and today I find 3 more teeth just about ready to make their grand entrance!  Seriously!  4 teeth in 1 week is simply not fair.

Unlike 3 or so months ago, J no longer cries uncontrollably due to teething discomfort.  Instead he cries a little bit, just enough to get our attention, then turns into a sucky, snuggly, grumpy bear.  At night if he`s in discomfort he wants to sleep with us, during the day he wants to be held and picked up, cuddled and hugged.  I would be lying if I said I didn`t enjoy the cuddle time, but I wish it wasn`t accompanied by discomfort and baby whimpers.

And you know … the only thing I found to soothe his gums these days is a big raw apple.  J chews and chews on that and it seems to help.

Hope you all had a lovely weekend!  We are EXHAUSTED over here and so wishing it was a long weekend!

Toddler Meal Plan + Modified Banana Muffins

Banana muffins are a huge hit around here.  I make mine with reduced sugar, or substitute grated apples and blueberries for sugar all together, and J just loves them.  I cut the muffin into 4 quarters and he just munches away on them.

Since I have so many bananas in my freezer I make 2 separate batches, one baby variety and one adult {whole walnuts and whole sugar}.  Then I freeze the muffins in giant zip lock bags, and take out one at a time as needed.

Modified Banana Muffins for Toddlers

3 ripe bananas

1 egg

1//2 cup of melted butter

1/4 cup of brown sugar

1/2 cup of finely ground walnuts {fine powder}

1 and 1/2 cups of flour

1 tsp baking soda

pinch of salt

1tbsp pure vanilla extract

1.  Preheat oven to 375 degrees and line 2 muffin trays.

2.  Mash ripe bananas in a bowl, add melted butter and stir.

3.  Add in egg and vanilla, and stir until well blended.

4.  Add sugar, flour and walnut grounds and mix.

5.  Pour contents into the lined muffin tins and bake for 20 minutes or until golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the middle comes out clean.

J is also obsessed lately with sliced tomatoes, peppers and cucumbers.  Give him a plate of that stuff and he is the happiest toddler in the universe.  So this week I simply added a few extras to meal plan from week 8.  Those extras being:  sliced tomatoes, sliced peppers and chickpea+corn salad with raisins.  As you know this week was pretty rough, so I’m really glad I had this to refer back to with some teeny tiny tweaks.

Here’s this week’s meal plan.  Enjoy!  baby meal plan week12

Scenes From Our Weekend

We typically spend our weekends playing with J, going to parks, doing groceries, taking pictures, baking.  Its all pretty normal around here.

This time I took a few snaps as well.  We hung out with our dear friend Maaike {pictures to come in the next few days}, we went to the park on a rainy day, we baked, ran, installed baby gates and organized my makeups.
