A Nightly Picture of Sleepy Sleeps

You often hear moms talking about how they feel as if they could watch their babies sleep forever.  I can say without a shadow of a doubt that I fall in this same category.

Watching my son sleep is one of my favorite things to do, and not in a creepy way.

I love seeing his little lips move as though he is getting ready to cry out.  I love how his eye lids quiver under the stress of his baby dreams.

There is an art to how baby J sleeps.

He begins to fall asleep on his back, hugging his blankey tight and staring up at his dad {who usually puts him down}.  As his eyes get heavier and heavier he turns on his side.  This is how he falls asleep at first, but shortly thereafter he spits out his soother and flops onto his belly, causing his little cherub lips to squish against the soft mini pillow.  He loves his belly sleeps, just as much as I love my belly sleeps too.

In November I decided to start taking a picture of baby J sleeping every night before I go to bed.  I can’t help it…its like an addiction now.  If you follow me on instagram {@BluebirdKisses} you already see these photos every night.  I only wish I had done this with him from the very beginning, since I’m sure some day he won’t let me creep into his room and snap pics of him sleeping…probably around the same time he starts bringing girls home?  but I don’t want to think about that yet.

For now I will enjoy his peaceful lovely sleepy sleeps {as we call them around here}.

Retro Nursery Inspiration: Teal, Pink and Yellow

There’s something to be said for visual inspiration when planning out a nursery design, and this retro kitchen is the perfect inspiration for a retro vintage nursery look.

Nursery Tips:

- find a vintage crib on Craig’s List and paint it teal

- muted gray walls would look beautiful

- pick rust red, pink and mustard accents for around the room

- look to Etsy for unique nursery items

- find the fabric you love and make your own crib sheets and curtains for an extra touch

SUPER SECRET POST {announcement}

What could it be?   What could it be?!  and no I’m NOT PREGNANT again.  HAHA!  {I know secretly that’s what you all thought}

We’re getting a MAKEOVER!  NOW.

Well not right now…but soon…in the next few days!

I’ve been working for a while now with a super talented designer to give Bluebird Kisses a makeover.  Not just a look makeover, but also the addition of a few super awesome features:

- a FORUM for you mommas to discuss momma things, and for me to get to interact with you a bit more and answer questions

- a BLOGROLL so I can finally display all the really beautiful blogs I read on a daily basis

- a VENDORS section to stash away the lovely finds and great vendors I come across

and much much more!

I will be taking the site offline during the new installation, but don’t worry it will be done during off hours and I will make sure to give you plenty of notice!  Follow us on Facebook and Twitter for updates on the site take down.

The change is both exciting and terrifying for me.  I’m excited to include some of these new features that I’ve been dreaming of for a long time.  At the same time the current site is kind of like my second baby, and my dad worked really really hard to code it and maintain it….and he’s not a graphic designer by any means.  So its been a real family project in a way and I’m sort of sad to see it go.  I seem to get really attached to things, teddy bears, shirts, books, this site.  Almost like they are people with feelings.  Gosh that sounds weird doesn’t it!?  Well anyways, I could quite possibly cry a little when the change over happens…but I will be celebrating with champy at the same time.  Bitter sweet.

So stay tuned for more updates in the next little bit!  And who knows, you might see a new Bluebird Kisses as early as Monday morning!

Color Blocked Mamma

By now I’m sure you’ve seen color blocked fashion done a million different ways, but did you ever wonder how mommas and mommas to be could pull it off?

Here’s a few easy tips:

- find a slick pair of stretchy black leggings, for support and a slimmed down look

- wear a flowy dark tank top which will skim the pre and post baby belly

- wear colorful accessories and shoes instead of clothing

- and if you want to wear heels pick a pair of fabulous platforms, they will give you the most support while still making it seem as though you are wearing 10 inch heels

Happy Friday!
